Prodigy step into the future

After last week’s news that Empire of the Sun will lead the Future Music Festival comes the announcement that UK firestarters the Prodigy and Franz Ferdinand will join the fun at Ascot Racecourse on February 28.

Since rising out of the underground rave scene in the early 90s, the Prodigy disappeared after releasing their international chart-topping 1997 album, The Fat of the Land, only to hit back in 2004 with Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunner and this year’s Invaders Must Die.

Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand have made every post a winner since bursting on the scene with their excellent self-titled debut album in 2004. Perth fans last witnessed Alex Kapranos and his gang playing a brilliant headlining set at Southbound in January.

That tasty trio will head a bill featuring top international DJs, including David Guetta (of chart-topping Sexy Bitch and Ibiza fame), German electro-dance duo Booka Shade, house music guru Erick Morillo and Germany’s so-called king of techno Sven Vath.

More Germanic sounds come via Boys Noize, while the UK offers Above & Beyond, DJ John Digweed and the polarising Does It Offend You, Yeah? Iranian-American techno DJ Dubfire will also appear.

Earlybird tickets are on sale from October 22 from Ticketmaster and all the usual outlets.
